ABOUT

Roberto Brambilla (Milan) works with woodturning, developing a practice centered on the relationship between containing form and internal pressure.
With a background in engineering, in recent years he has progressively oriented his work toward an artistic practice, maintaining a structural and material rigor in his approach.
His works explore the moment in which energy held within a form becomes visible without compromising its balance.
He lives and works in Milan.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I approached woodturning without a defined artistic project. My background is in engineering: for years I worked within closed systems, parameters, and measurable outcomes. The lathe introduced a different variable — a living material with its own internal tensions.

In recent years, my research has focused on the relationship between containing form and internal pressure. Woodturning, traditionally associated with the idea of the vessel, becomes for me a device of tension: a volume that holds, compresses, accumulates.

Through incision, chromatic layering, and alteration of the rim, I investigate the moment in which what is internal becomes visible without the form losing its coherence.

Wood is not a neutral support. The surface is not decoration, but a field of energy.
